TESTING EXTREME CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
The aim of TerraXCube is to safely study the effects of different climatic conditions on human physiology, alpine ecology and industrial products.
TerraXCube centres on the concept of Cubes - the Large Cube and the Small Cube—two distinct chambers for environmental simulation that enable a broad spectrum of experiments and tests.
With a useable volume of 360m³, the Large Cube can simulate the most extreme environmental conditions on the earth’s surface, from Himalayan peaks to African deserts. In the Large Cube you can create wind storms, modify oxygen levels, get – 40 degrees, create a 50 mm/ hour snowfall or a 60mm/ hour rain, go up to 9.000 meters or suddenly increase or decrease air pressure. In so doing you can keep the synchronous control of multiple complex environmental parameters for long duration analysis.
The Small Cube consists of four smaller simulation chambers that can independently replicate the different environmental conditions present in the Alpine Arc.
TerraXCube opens a door to new areas of research in many different sectors.
The first field is medical research, in order to explore physical endurance, test medicines and medical devices in extreme conditions, train people for explorations in extreme environments.
The second main field is the ecologic research, in order to investigate the impact of climate change in special environments such as high mountain or poles.
Finally, TerraXCube opens new possibilities in the industrial sector. By carrying out environmental simulations on their products, companies can characterise the responses of products to particular environmental conditions prior to starting a certification process; promptly respond to customers’ demands with respect to the operation of their products in difficult environmental conditions (high altitude, cold, heat, etc.); obtain high-quality data for further product development via operation and performance tests; obtain qualified support during the R&D phase.
Here are some examples of environmental tests and simulations that can be done inside TerraXCube’s climatic chambers: automotive (cold start test, windshield defrost test, cabin air conditioning), UAV -Unmanned aerial vehicle (high altitude flight testing, flight test in hot or cold conditions), agriculture and green (growth test), textile (comfort testing, function testing).
TerraXCube offers new opportunities for many companies to test in a safe and controlled environment, with cost saving, giving a thrust to R&D; that’s why more than 30 companies are already interested.
